Starr Benefield asked that we post this info the website. "Our dear friend and Clarke classmate, graduate of '68, Mary Skinner Taylor, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at UMC Hospital, Jackson, MS.

Visitation will be Friday, November 14, 5:00-7:00 p.m., at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home, 106 Cynthia St, Clinton, MS 39056.

Services will be on Saturday, 11:00 am, at Morrison Heights Baptist Church in Clinton, MS.

She will be missed and long held in the memory of her friends for her sweet, positive outlook in the face of adversity. Her desire was for all to know Christ, that she gave God the glory for her healing years ago and that her family was the most important treasure in her life. Her smile will always be her trademark in our hearts." (Her friends.)

Sept 5, 2014 - We remember him well. He served as a missionary in Mexico for many years. He was beloved by those who benefited by the Lord's ministry through him.

 

Dr. John T. Carter, who served on the faculty of Samford University's Orlean Bullard Beeson School of Education for 31 years, died Sunday, March 2,2014 in Birmingham,AL. He was 92.
Dr. Carter joined the Samford faculty in 1956 and served until his retirement in 1987. He was dean of the education school from 1980 until 1986.
A native of Newton, Miss., Carter held a bachelor of science degree from the Mississippi State University, master of science from the University of Tennessee and doctor of education from the University of Illinois.
He taught at Wood Junior College and Clarke Memorial Junior College in Mississippi prior to joining the Samford faculty.
Over the years, he and his wife, Dr. Frances Carter, supported education school programs by funding scholarships and sponsoring the Young Authors Conference held annually at the school. Dr. Frances Carter also taught for many years in the education school.
John Carter was a veteran of World War II, having served as a paratrooper in the North African and European theaters of combat. He was awarded five battle stars and a bronze arrowhead for his service. He was also a licensed pilot and was active in the Civil Air Patrol.
A celebration service of Carter's life will be held Friday, March 7, at 11 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall of Dawson Memorial Baptist in Homewood. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations be sent to the John and Frances Carter Scholarship Fund at Samford.
Carter is survived by his wife, Frances; their son, John Wayne Carter; their daughter, Frankye Nell Carter Branum; and eight grandchildren.

 

 

 

 

Ernestine Jaudon McGaugh Burns died peacefully at Hospice of Winston-Salem, NC, on Tuesday, August 6, 2013.

A memorial service will be held at Knollwood Baptist Church in Winston-Salem on Sunday, August 11, at 3:00 PM, followed by a reception and family gathering in the Fellowship Hall. Internment will take place in Newton, MS, the following week. Memorial gifts in Mrs. Burns’ honor may be made to Knollwood Baptist Church, designated for the Capital Campaign, 330 Knollwood Street, Winston-Salem, NC, 27104.

A funeral service will be held at Newton CountyFuneral Home, North, on Highway 15 North, in Newton, MS, on Saturday, August 17, at 2:00 PM. The family will greet friends at 1:00 PM, prior to the service. Internment will follow in the Newton County Memorial Garden at the same location. Memorial gifts in Mrs. Burns’ honor may be made to Knollwood Baptist Church, designated for the Memorial Fund, 330 Knollwood Street, NC, 27104.
She was born in Monroe County, MS, on February 9, 1914, to Paul L and Beryl West Jaudon. She retired in 1975 as Professor of Sociology and Psychology at Clarke Memorial Junior College in Newton, MS. Prior to teaching, Mrs. Burns worked in Administration at the same college. She graduated from Southern Mississippi University, earning both a Bachelor and Master’s degree.
Mrs. Burns was a member of Knollwood Baptist Church since moving to Winston-Salem from Newton, MS, in 1997.
She is preceded in death by her parents and two loving husbands, A. L. “Mac” McGaugh and A. Sidney Burns, and three siblings, Evna L. Jaudon , William T. Jaudon, and Sarah Grace J. Gallop.
She is survived by two daughters, Anne McGaugh Compere of Winston-Salem, NC, and Marcia M. Blackburn (Warner) of Jacksonville, FL; five grandchildren: Layne Compere Starling of Winston-Salem, NC, LouAnn Compere Vaughn (Scott) of Charlotte, NC, William Lee Compere of Winston-Salem, NC, Lisa Blackburn Lundgren (David) of Bluffton, SC, and Scott W. Blackburn (Christi) of Poway, CA; seven great-grandchildren: Padgett Lane Vaughn, Rachael Anne Vaughn, Sydney Compere Vaughn, Virginia Susan Starling, Jessica Ashley Blackburn, Katherine Taylor Blackburn, and Shannon Leigh Blackburn; two sisters: Esther “Star” Dahlem of Columbus, MS, and Mavis P. Daves of Columbus, MS; two brothers: Robert C. Jaudon (Yvonne) of Columbus, MS, and Jerry L. Jaudon of Moscow, TN, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ernestine Burns was beloved by all who knew her and was active in every church and community in which she lived, serving on boards, committees, and participating in and leading numerous professional organizations, even at Brookridge Retirement Community where she moved at age 84.

Roy Vaughn, son of Dean Victor Vaughn and Mrs. Joyce Vaughn, died Dec. 10, 2011 at his home in Ridgeland, Ms after suffering with Parkinson's Disease for about 4 years.  He died in his sleep, of a heart attack---a complication of the Parkinson's.  He was 52, and is survived by his father, his wife, Greta, and 2 daughters. 

Victor, Roy's father, has had multiple strokes, which have left him almost non-existent of speech; he resides in a nursing home in Clinton. 

Also, I am not sure if a notice has been posted concerning Joyce Vaughn's death a few years ago---from Alzheimer's for a number of years.

Allen Parnell graduated from Clarke 1965.  Later he returned to be the Director of Admissions, Alumni, Development & Financial Aid.  He continued to work there until the merger with Mississippi College.  He has served as pastor at many churches in our state.

Barry passed into eternal rest on October 3, following 3 months of very agressively spreading esophageal cancer. He fought a hard battle, never questioning, and was alert to the last breath. His Celebration of Life was held on Thursday evening, October 7, at St. Augustine Shores United Methodist Church where he was very active in church ministries. On October 22, his ashes were distributed at Wolf Lake, Jackson, Michigan, per his request.

Rick and Julie Tillotson's son, Stephen passed away yesterday, October 14, 2010.  Arrangements are being made by Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg.

Stephen has had muscular dystrophy for many years and had been getting weaker especially in the last year or so. He was a 3rd year student at Mississippi State until his health was at the point he could no longer continue.

Ben collapsed while playing in a tennis match in
Springfield, MO where he was the station manager of The WindFM 88 and where he and his wife Kathleen both worked. We will miss Ben he had a way of touching everyone he met with good humor and a smile, but more than that he was from all accounts an everyday witness and ambassador for Christ. Our beloved Bro. Costilow passed away this morning at 5:00 AM (December 5, 2009) and gained all that heaven has for him. We grieve with the family but rejoice in his homegoing where there is no more pain and suffering. Hallelujah!

Reverend Tommy Martin, 50, of Dundalk, MD died Saturday, January 23, 2010, at home.Services will be 11:00 am Thursday, January 28, 2010, at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton. Tommy was born December 14, 1959 in Jackson and was a graduate of Blue Mountain College and New Orleans Theological Seminary. After completing his formal education, he held pastorates in Pennsylvania and Maryland, as well as serving on several boards and committees in the areas.

He began serving the Lord at an early age, and will be remembered for his faith in Jesus Christ and service to his fellow man. He blessed many people, and found joy in helping others.He is preceded in death by his mother, Dolores. Survivors include his father, Thomas; and an extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins.
